Fundraising: Now and Years past.....

How does the PTO earn money? Where does it all go? How does this year compare to past years? What are the main fundraisers for this year? Let's take a moment to answer your questions.

100% of our income is from Fundraising

In years past, the main fundraisers have been:
1) Halloween Carnival
2) Sally Foster
3) Auction (spring)

This year, the PTO made a conscious decision to replace the Halloween Carnival with a fundraiser that involved the students and had an academic component. After much discussion, the PTO decided to replace the Halloween Carnival with a Triathlon. The Triathlon has two academic components, reading and math, plus an exercise component the walk/jogathon.

This school year, the main fundraisers are:
1) Triathlon (fall)
2) Sally Foster
3) Auction (spring)

The spring auction has become very large and is difficult to manage. Due to the enormous task of organizing and coordinating the auction, it is difficult to find someone to chair this critical fundraiser.

By replacing the Halloween carnival with the Triathlon, the PTO hopes to complete more of the fundraising for Wilkes in the fall and reduce the scale and complexity of the auction in the spring.

How do we spend the money raised?

Many student activities are funded by the PTO. Events including Harvest Fair, Science Fair, Spring Splash, Field Day, and Author Day are all made possible by PTO funds. Programs and Activities including Field Trips, Assemblies, Art Docents and Arts Education Consortium programs are all funded by the PTO.

Additional funding for Art Supplies and Playground/Recess Supplies ensure our kids and teachers have the tools they need to teach the students at work and play. Classroom Enhancement grants up to $500 per teacher/specialist ensure each instructor has materials needed to supplement learning in the classroom. The PTO also provides funds for Staff Development to make sure our teachers can do the best job possible for our children.

Each year the PTO works with the principal and staff to identify major needs at Wilkes. In years past the PTO has funded new Playground equipment, Smartboards, Risers for performances, Digital Cameras, Sound System, Laptops, Outdoor Benches, Storage Shed, and many other items that would not have been possible without the support from the Wilkes families!

All of this would not be possible without your support.
We Thank you!!!

NOTE: Although the Halloween carnival is no longer a PTO Fundraiser, the 4th grade class made a decision to take over the carnival and use all the proceeds to help fund Outdoor Education for the 2009-2010 4th grade class.
